You wake up with an uneasy feeling in your stomach. As soon as you start to brush your teeth or take a sip of water, the waves of nausea hit you. I’ve been there, 3 times to be exact. Some days there isn’t much you can do to combat the 1st trimester troubles, but there’s a few natural methods you can try!
For nausea relief, try smelling ginger or peppermint essential oils. I like to add peppermint essential oil to my hot tea in the mid-morning to ease up the queasiness!
For extra protein, because it’s so hard to eat, try a smoothie with protein powder! For some reason, drinking through a straw was so much easier than eating a full meal! My favorite protein powders are Young Living’s Pure Protein Complete, Chocolate or Cinnamon Vanilla or Orgain’s Chocolate, Vanilla or Strawberry.
You definitely want to keep your immune system boosted with a Prenatal Vitamin (gummies are the way to go in the 1st trimester) and lots of antioxidants. Eat blueberries, drink NingXia daily, and make sure you’re taking Vitamin C and D!
As you enter the 2nd trimester, the nausea eases up and you start to get some energy back (at least most do). Every pregnancy is different, every week can be different, so listen to you body and rest when needed! My favorite natural tools for the 2nd trimester are a really nice lotion or cocoa butter for my stomach, arms, and chest to try to minimize stretch marks!
As your uterus expands, your round ligaments can get super tight and cause cramping and just some growing pains. Young Living has a product called Mineral Essence that is packed with Magnesium and other nutrients to help your joints and ligaments. Alternatively, you can get an over the counter magnesium supplement to help! My midwife recommends 500MG 2x a day!
I also like to use the 2nd trimester to read up and prepare myself, my family, and anyone else that is to be involved. My favorite books are:
All about Essential Oils & other Natural Remedies for Babies, Toddlers, Kids, and Pregnancy! Gentle Babies
Preparing for Birth Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth
Prepare for Pregnancy, Labor, Delivery, and Baby! The Mama Natural
When I hit the 3rd Trimester I am overjoyed, but also run into panic mode. Am I ready, is the house ready, are my other kids ready, do we have enough food/diapers/breast pump supplies, and the list can go on and on. Drink some Red Raspberry Leaf Tea, add some Lavender to an evening bath, and relax! My favorite things to implement in the 3rd trimester include Claraderm – a perineum spray that will help prepare you down there… just trust me, and stocking up on essential oils for baby and breastfeeding. A few of my favorites for breastfeeding are Fennel and Basil – as they can help stimulate milk production. My favorite oils for baby are Gentle Baby, Lavender, and Sleepyize!
As with any pregnancy, a few other tips outside of supplements and essential oils include HYDRATION, EXERCISE, AND REST! It is good to drink double the amount of water you typically would, when you are pregnant. If you are used to drinking 1 gallon of water, drink 2 gallons.
If you are already into a fitness routine, keep it up and modify the routine as your belly grows! If you are not already in a fitness routine, no worries, just try to get in a walk 3-4 times a week or try prenatal yoga!
And finally, rest as much as possible. If you want to go to bed at 8pm and you can, do it. Pretty soon….. sleep is not on your agenda!
