Recommended Sunscreens for Fun in the Sun

Put simply, everything you put on your skin or inside your body is going to affect your overall health and wellbeing.

It’s been all over the news recently… toxic chemicals found in sunscreens, toxins that are making their way into your bloodstream. I'm sure you've heard the recent news frenzy and about how the FDA is now concerned that studies are showing these results. There are so many ingredients in products on store shelves that haven't even been fully tested and vetted that we’ll likely never know the damage they're doing to our bodies for generations to come.

I choose to not use products that contain harmful chemicals. These toxins can interrupt our bodies' endocrine systems & the flow of our natural hormones. They can alter our kids' behaviors and even cause cancer. Instead, I use mineral sunscreens and encourage you to do the same! Here are a few safe, natural options:

Recommended Sunscreens

Each sunscreen we recommend is rating as a 1 on the EWG scale, meaning the lowest health hazard and safest sunscreens to use!

Neutrogena Pure & Free Baby Mineral Sunscreen, SPF 50

Yes, a product you’ve heard of and can buy at any big box store! If you have other Neutrogena products you currently use, check out their ratings at the EWG website (link below), because they aren’t all the same!

Badger Kids Sunscreen, Tangerine & Vanilla, SPF 30

You can also buy this at big box stores, like Target and Walmart. It smells so good and goes on so easily, without that greasy feeling!

California Baby Calendula, SPF 30

I’ve seen this at Target, but nowhere else. You can order it directly from California Baby’s website. They also have the BEST diaper cream around!

Young Living Mineral Sunscreen, SPF 50

Our go to for the pool! You can literally see the water beading up on your skin, and that’s when you know it’s literally blocking anything from getting past the skin!

The Environmental Working Group’s mission is to empower people to live healthier lives in a healthier environment. Visit their website, download their app, and just take a look at some of the products you have in your house. Start with your current sunscreen products, then explore the ratings of the products under the kitchen sink, or in the bathroom cabinet, or your makeup and skincare products. Once you start seeing the words “hormone disrupting chemical”, “HIGH health concern”, “Organ system toxicity”, “cancer”…. Need I continue… Toss those products out the window and find something better for you and your family!

I’d be a fool not to point you in the right direction here. My family loves Young Living. Young Living is so much more than an essential oil company, and although we love our essential oils and use them daily, we value Young Living’s reputation and the integrity of their products. I can walk into any room in my house and find a Young Living product, from sunscreen to shampoo, toothpaste to supplements, we are truly a product of the product! If you're looking to get started, contact us or check out their website here.
