Moms with kids have busy days. We have school, work, housekeeping, pets, friends, family, doctor appointments, sports practice or other extracurricular activities, cooking, homework, baths, and then finally, sleep!
Experts agree that most kids need 10-12 hours of sleep every night. Some kids needs more than others, and the average from recent studies is about 9.5 hours. I don't know about you, but I strive for 8-9 hours of sleep a night for myself, MOST NIGHTS, and aim for 9-10 for the kids.
Here's some tips to help you and your kiddos catch some ZZZZZs.
1. Bedtime Routine - go to bed at the same time each night. Follow a calming bedtime routine with a warm bath and books.
2. Limit foods before bed that contain caffeine, like sodas and desserts.
3. Turn the TV off when it's time to go to sleep.
4. Plug in the diffuser 30 minutes before bedtime so the room is filled with calming smells!
Here's our favorite essential oil combos for sleep.
Lavender - In my opinion, this is all you really need for a good night's sleep. 3-5 drops in your diffuser and good night sweetheart. I also love putting a drop on my pillow right before bedtime, or running in through my daughter's hair so she can smell it all night long!
Lavender + Cedarwood - Cedarwood has a woodsy aroma and contains 98% sesquiterpenes, which is a super fancy scientific word to say that it's REALLY powerful. Cedarwood has a ton of health benefits, but most importantly can help with relaxation, stress levels, and sleep!
Lavender + Orange - Orange has more of a sweet smelling aroma and probably sounds confusing because when most people think of Orange, they think of citrus oils and citrus oils make us happy and energized! Just as much as it can uplift you, it can calm you and bring you down to a relaxed state too!
Peace & Calming - A blend of Tangerine, Orange, Ylang Ylang, Blue Tansy (which makes the oil have a blue tint), and Patchouli. Definitely a Young Living favorite and wonderful to use when it's time to wind down the kids!
KidScents Sleepyize - My favorite for kids! This blend includes Lavender, Geranium, Roman Chamomile, Tangerine, Bergamot, Sacred Frankincense, Valerian, and Rue.
Tranquil or Rutavala Roll-On - These are Young Living exclusive blends and would be used topically on your skin, they do not go in the diffuser! They do contain LAVENDER! So now you may be seeing why Lavender is the go-to for sleep!
