Spring time is allergy season. The trees, the flowers, the grasses all cause watery red eyes, sneezing, coughing, eczema, and other weird symptoms. It gets me every year, and this year seems to be worse because of the cold/hot spells and loads of rainfall.
Allergies can affect the whole body and aren’t just from the outdoors. People can be allergic to foods, pet dander, mold, insects, medicines, and other things. Keep in mind, this post is referring to natural ways to help combat outdoor allergens, not the other types of allergens. I wish a spoonful of honey could make me not allergic to cats though.
In this post, I hope to give you some ways to combat these seasonal sniffles, ways to keep your body above the wellness line so your body’s defense is on attack before they start.
Apple Cider Vinegar
I feel like I could write an entire post on apple cider vinegar. It can do amazing things in recipes, to clean, to treat dandruff, remove yucky odors (which is weird because it smells awful), but most importantly it’s got amazing health benefits. For allergies, it can help reduce mucus production and cleanse your lymphatic system. Take 1 tablespoon a day, but if you can’t stomach that, add it to a cup of hot water with local honey!
Yes, chiropractic care can help reduce allergy symptoms, and here’s why. Misalignments in the spine can cause a delay in the communication between the brain and spine and when this happens, the body doesn’t function at 100%. If a nerve is pinched or part of your spinal cord is not in line, the systems in your body cannot work properly. A chiropractor can help restore the body’s alignment and open communication between the brain and the spinal cord, allowing all systems to function at their best. For more information, contact our local chiropractor to see how she can help you!
Neti Pot or Nasal Sprays
Don’t let your nose get filled and stuffed with allergens from outside. When we’re outside, even just from going from the front door to the car, you inhale a serious amount of allergens. Use a neti pot or saline spray to cleanse your nose out once or twice a day. My favorite is the kids version – Boogie Mist or Boogie Wipes!
